Got jaw pain? Depending where in the jaw the pain is, here’s a natural movement that may help.
TMJ pain could happen if your jaw muscles are “too tight.”
So try this: Fake chewing. Here’s how:
- Put your lips together.
- Teeth apart.
- Pretend you are chewing.
That small movement uses your jaw muscles and increases circulation in them. That’s why it helps them relax.
Small movements can make big differences! You cannot force a muscle to relax but you can gently suggest that it relax with small movements. 🙂
Some people with tight jaw muscles and TMJ pain find that chewing food actually makes their jaw pain worse. If that’s the case for you, this simple movement may help.
Another tip to reduce jaw pain is chewing gum. Again, it’s tiny movements with your jaw.
I find that chewing gum when I drive helps keep muscle tension away from my jaw, neck and head. It’s also supposed to bring more blood into the brain area so we can think better.
The only problem with that is that most gum is loaded with nasty chemical stuff and yucky fake sweeteners like aspartame that actually cause head pain.
You can buy Xylitol gum from the health food store. (Don’t be fooled at the drug store. It may says xylitol but read the label–the yucky stuff is still there.)
You can order the good gum online, too. It only has a few ingredients and they are natural.
And get this: Xylitol is a type of natural sugar that kills bacteria in your mouth!
So you can have a healthier mouth and get rid of pain in your jaw at the same time. 🙂

In some people, Aspartame can cause some nasty reactions. I also avoid aspartame even if i am not allergic to it. I am more inclined to use natural sweeteners such as Stevia or Xylitol because they are much better than Aspartame based sweeteners. :”‘,` Enjoy your weekend!
Hi Tristan,
I’m with you; aspartame is bad. It can cause migraines and head pain. It has no value in my mind. But the natural sweeteners, when needed, can be good. Xylitol kills bad bacteria and so does honey. But when we think of it, the things that aspartame are in aren’t good for us in the first place. Taking things with little or no food value and adding additional chemicals doesn’t make much sense.
